Welcome to the Windsor Green Playground project.
Build Date: 11/03/07
Welcome to the website for the playground we will be building together on South Ora Court in Windsor Green. Currently partners funding the project are the City of Greenbelt, the Windsor Green Homeowner's Association and Kaboom. We welcome others to join in with funding and volunteer help to assist in the completion of this project. Our design day for the new playground will be June 9th from 10 AM until noon at the South Ora Court playground. All interested parties are welcome at that meeting, especially children. We plan to have chalk on hand and have children who attend draw their dream playground on the walks surrounding the playground. The big folks will use this as a guide in final playground design. We will have catalogues on hand with examples of numerous types of equipment that are available.
The area available for the playground is small, about 50 feet wide at the widest end and 70 feet long. About halfway through it's length the play area begins to taper and ends at only about 20 feet wide. It will take careful and creative planning to make the best use of the space. Our surfacing material will be chopped rubber like that used at the recently completed playground at Frankfort Drive.
We estimate that the total funds required for the project will be around $38,000.
Update 6/18/07
Our design Day went great. What we found is that some kids communicated what they liked verbally, others liked drawing with chalk or pad and pencil. Some kids just played and had to be asked what they'd like to have in the playground. Parents seemed to prefer just telling us verbally what they liked. We had about 25 people total. All live close by and were quite excited about having the playground redone. Some of the popular items were spiral slides, tire swings and a spinning element called the xcelerator made by Gametime. We'll be having an adult meeting shortly to work out how to meet all the things kids asked for in the small area available. I'll post the date for that when I hear from the committee. Check out the photos of our Design Day on the photos page.
Update 10/2/07
We didn't get a final request into our supplier until the end of August. They got back to us with a plan in mid September. Looks like equipment will arrive the third week in October, so we have moved the build day back to November 3 to give us a little wiggle room. I'm attaching a copy of the plan with photos on the photo page. We will have a tire swing, two slides , spiral and a drop slide. Also planned is a space loop overhead rung climber, an S climbing wall and a spinning ride called an Xcelerator. We plan to have most equipment roughly assembled by staff and volunteers will be pouring the footers and installing surface material on the build day.
