08/08/2007: Representatives from Keystone Mercy Health Plan, Village Charter School and Flynn Realty met at the school's location on 200 Commerce Drive, Chester Township to discuss plans for Keystone to donate a playground to the children of Village Charter.
08/13/2007: It's a go! MAG playground, Village Charter and Keystone representatives meet and agree on a site. Measurements are taken, a Build Date is chosen and away we go!
08/25/2007: The equipment is ordered in plenty of time for the October 22nd Build date.
09/13/2007: The "Playground Build Team" met today at Village Charter to finalize details of the events leading to the Build Day of October 22nd. Attendees included Village Charter's John Linder, Headmaster, Dale Kelly, Principal, Ed Mitchell, Chief Operating Officer and from Keystone Mercy Health Plan, Sharon Thompson, Project Manager.
09/13/2007: On September 27th at 1:30pm, there will a school assembly introducing the playground to the students of Village Charter. The children are planning to perform songs in appreciation of the playground that Keystone Mercy is donating.
09/14/2007: On October 15th, there will be a "Groundbreaking" ceremony thanking everyone involved for there participation in this worthwhile project. Ground will be broken in anticipation of the Build Day one week later on October 22nd.
09/27/2007: The Student Assembly was a rousing success! The students of Village Charter were nervous with excitement as they awaited the unveiling of a drawing of the playground that Keystone Mercy Health Plan was donating to them. Representatives from Keystone, Village Charter, Flynn Management and dozens of students cheered as the artist's rendering was displayed by Anne Morrissey of Keystone. In addition, each student received a "goodie bag" from Keystone to take home.
10/03/2007: It has arrived! MAG Playground informed us that the playground equipment has arrived and they have tucked it safely away in their warehouse until October 22nd.
10/04/2007: Artist Alyssa Baldwin has generously agreed to paint a mural on the outside wall next to the playground to be completed on Build Day. As soon as we get an artist's rendering it will posted on the photos. Way to go Alyssa!
10/15/2007: The Groundbreaking Ceremony went off with out a hitch and everyone is excited about next week's Build Day. In attendance from Keystone Mercy Health Plan were President and CEO Dan Hilferty and President of Pa Managed Care Anne Morrissey. State Representative Thaddeus Kirkland was nice enough to make it down from Harrisburg and Landlord John Flynn from The Flynn Company was also there. Artist Alyssa Baldwin began the prelimanary steps of painting the mural on the wall behind the playground location.
There was plenty of media coverage, too! Fox TV News and The Philadelphia Tribune were well represented. After a complimentary breakfast provided by Village Charter, the ceremony began with several speakers giving thanks and support as well as discussing the importance of safe play in children's lives.
Finally, several children joined the distinguished guests in breaking the ground for the new playground to be built Monday, October 22.
