The Kenny School playground will give our 295 students a great place to play and be safe. We are taking steps to be a healthy school. This includes opportunities for outdoor play and recreation.

We are ready to plan for the Design Day. The students will love getting involved. We can have posters throughout the school and begin to promote our fundraising goal.

Hi team, we need to carry out the soil test and utility test. Who wants to volunteer? Our site is in good shape. The grade is ok and there is nothing on the site to be removed. Yeah!

We have a list of teams and activities required. We should now make sure we have chairs/co-chairs for each team. I am putting together a binder for the build. We can add info as we gather names and data. I am thinking we may get some grant money from the Wellness monies that are being promoted by Mrs. Obama. We have one such grant pending for about $1,000 and we should hear around mid-April. The Kaboom site has many good ideas about fund raising. Check it out under the Toolkit.

We started off with a doable project. We sold cookie dough and made close to $1,000. The team is in the process of organizing upcoming fund raisers. We are also producing a brochure that we can use to solicit donations. Mr. Chu has put a donation site on our project's website. We meet again April 5 to discuss next steps.

We are just beginning this step. If you have contacts or know of groups we should contact for this build, please let us know. We are in the Adams Village neighborhood of Dorchester.

Hi! I'm a Project Manager with KaBOOM! and I helped a group in Dorchester build a playground in September of 2008. It was a joint effort with The Home Depot and the Dorchester Bay Economic Development Corporation. The playground resides in a Dudley Village complex and Laverne Lindsey might be a great resource (she was one of my main contacts during the planning process). If you're interested, let me know and I'll send along her contact information. Looks like you are in great shape, by the way, your planner is inspiring!

The following companies have representatives in the greater Boston area: Playworld Systems, Big Toys, Play and Park Structures, BCI Burke, and Landscape Structure Inc. Check out the websites for each company.

Would this be a good place for the Design Team to begin?

The site selected is the field next to the school facing Oakton Avenue.

Team, this is where we are in our planning. KaBOOM! suggests 2 months for these activities. Perhaps we could do it in one month? Let's talk at our March 1st meeting.

The sections of the toolkit are related to the committees we are forming. It might be helpful if chairs of the committees could view the webinars for their work.

I have participated in a community build at a BPS school many years. It was a great effort. We started with a small and simple piece of equipment. Over the years, other equipment was added. Depending on the partnerships we can develop and the money we can raise, we will determine the size of our project. Does anyone have contacts in the city of Boston that could help us with a community build?

We have an active PTA who has lots of energy. The parents and staff are interested in making a playground with age appropriate equipment happen at the Kenny School. We have several classes of pre-school and kindergarten students and we would like to start with equipment suitable for this age group. If we are successful with this initial project, then we would like to get equipment for the older students. We have students from age 3 to 11. We also have playgroups at the school for 1, 2, and 3 year olds.
