The SLLIS playground will bring joy to the 300 elementary students. This playground will also provide more space and opportunities for social events for families and community members.

Updates

If you haven't taken a look at the Playworld systems yet, I highly suggest it. In preparation for our conference call last Friday the committee looked at the options available for the build. There are several innovative equipment options and new takes on the playground features that we had as children. If selected we'll host a Design Day with 20-30 families and teachers to dream out loud about what our new space could be.

How is everything going? Do you have any updates? Will you still be building at the end of July?

In the spring of 2009 a group of our founding families and staff members began dreaming about their ideal outdoor play and exploration space for our students. Their ambitious plan and thorough research have led us down the path of creating an inspiring opportunity for our children to learn to play and play to learn. This summer and fall parent and student volunteers began the slow process of transforming a parking lot into play space. They painted games, built a climbing wall, installed a ball wall and created a digging area. Each weekend our students returned with a new play element and were very appreciative of the transformation. The subtle changes in our play space reflect the subtle changes in our students as they get accustomed to our language immersion environment. When we return to school next fall a KaBoom playground would represent the burst in language acquisition that our students will have attained!
