GSNEO will be providing all marketing materials and a press release for Build Day, in accordance with Girls Scouts of USA guidelines.

Our Design Day will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2010 at Laura's Home in Cleveland. We will get input from a few residents of the long term program about what they want to see on the basketball court and hear from the staff at Laura's Home. See you there!

The entire scope of the project is by students for families. Girl Scout Cadette Troop 7161 is comprised of 14 middles school girls and they are building this basketball court and playspace so moms and kids can play together. Each girl has a specific set of responsiblities in order to qualify for their Silver award.

An are in the grassy knol behind Laura's Home needs to be excavated and graded, approximately 60'X120'. The exisiting small play set was moved in December by Boy Scout Troop 176 as part of an Eagle project. The soil test was negative fro lead, aresenic or other hazards. A utility check was performed by Breeden Construction on 12/18/2009 and no utilities will be distrubed by the excavation and grading.

Organization......the key to success in any endeavor! It is expecially true when planning an activity like a basketball court build. The girls of scout Troop 7161 are busy organizing their materials, volunteers, and activities around the big day. Let us know if you have any ideas to help them along!

First of all, funds will come from selling GIRL SCOUT COOKIES! Foresters will be having a reverse raffle with all proceeds from the big board going to our build on April 17, 2010. I am also applying for a grant from NBA Cares and the Cleveland Cavs Foundation.

While our vision is clear, we are still in the planning stage and focusing on fundraising. Witht he help of Foresters, the Cleveland Cavs and NBA Cares, Laura's Home will soon have its basketball court!

Looking for volunteers for the first phase of the porject, which is actually an EAGLE SCOUT project for Carl Napper of Boy Scout Troop 176. We will be relocating an existing play structure to another area of Laura's Home and adding some benches to amke room for the basektball court.

We had our fisrt visit to Laura's Home on Saturday. We met with The City Mission Director for Development Jim Whiteman and we toured the facility. We learned about the mission of Laura's Home and we were able to see the area that Girl Scout Troop 7161 will be building a basketball court on,, along with Four Square, hop scotch and a world map for map ball. We have a plan and now we begin on our journey to SILVER!
