How do I cover liability issues associated with build day and equipment?

Great question! Liability is an important issue.
1. Have all volunteers sign a waiver! Here is a template you can use to design your own: http://projects.kaboom.org/project_files/safety/SampleVolunteerWaiver.pdf
2. Make sure that ALL equipment vendors (e.g., play equipment, surfacing) carry 1 million dollars in liability insurance. This is industry standard. For playground equipment, consider asking to be added BY NAME as an "additional insured." There will be a cost associated (perhaps $200 or so), but this is industry standard and within your rights to ask for.
Good luck!

I received a similar question today I'm hoping folks can chime in about: "We have been informed by our insurance company that we should not do a community build. Do you have information that we can provide them to help ease their minds?"
