Design Day was a success!
Design Day at Lincoln
Elementary Technology
Academy was
great! When everyone from KaBOOM! and Build a Bear Workshop arrived
we walked around where the new playground is going to go and talked about other
side projects that could potentially take place (mural, herb garden, etc.) It
was then time for the children's portion of the meeting to begin. When each
of the 30 students arrived they had their drawing pad, bear ears, and
nametag. The BABW folks worked on handing out t-shirts and helping kids
get ready. With the excitement building the music started and Bearemy (BABW’s
mascot) came out to dance with the kids! After Bearemy left we talked
about playground safety and the kids were quickly drawing their dream
playgrounds. To share their ideas and dreams the BABW associates helped
the kids and passed out stickers that read “I’m a Playground Designer”.
The kids were then ushered to the cafeteria and the adults were ready to
start. Jenn Diebling shared from BABW and the assistant principal shared
from LETA to welcome everyone. With a great turn out of 16 parents,
teachers and involved community members the adults meeting went very
smoothly. Everyone liked the presentation about the community build
process, shared ideas during asset mapping and were eager to sign up for a
committee to play for Build Day. At the end they all had fun picking out playground
components from the children’s drawings. After an amazing Design Day everyone
is eager and ready for the planning process that is required during the next 8
weeks until Build Day on June 27th.
