Project Overview

The staff and PTO desire to construct a playground at Lincoln Elementary Technology Academy. We propose building a multifaceted playspace for recreational and academic purposes at LETA. For now, our children are playing on nothing more than a broken down blacktop. We want to promote an active lifestyle, create an alternative area for recreational activities, utilize the space for physical education classes, and expand young minds through interactive play. By collaboratively working together as a team, we hope to make our dream of building a playground into a reality. We can only do this with investment and support from you. 

Background

As you might know, Pittsburgh Public School District is reconstructing and combining school. Many children were relocated during the process; Lincoln was no exception. However, students from Lemington Elementary School, down the street, along with most other children from various schools had a playground to play on and LETA has a broken down blacktop. Our children deserve the right to have a great place to play and grow. It is their human right as stated in the UN Convention on the Rights of a Child. We want to ensure that we fulfill this right for every child in this school and neighborhood.

Our goal, beyond building a much needed playground, is to build a bridge between the community, home and school through the project. The project provides the opportunity for the entire community to be a part of a positive experience, on that will result in a safe place to play and promote an active lifestyle in the community. During the experience, students will fell empowered through the unity and teamwork it will take to raise money and then build the playground. They will work collaboratively towards the meaningful goal of building a playground and providing a safe environment for our children to play.

Statement of Need

LETA and the surrounding community are working together to construct their first playground. This will give the children and their families the opportunity to work together and be a part of a positive experience. Our mission is to raise $100,000.00 to create a great place to play that will stimulate the imagination of children and promotes an active lifestyle in the community.
