Chris Larsen Park Playground Project
The Chris Larsen Park Playground Project was developed by the Junior League of Sioux City to expand the playground area next to the Chris Larsen Park Shelter House and install updated equipment. Located in Sioux City, Iowa, the park is off the I-29 exit between the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center (LCIC) and an Interstate Rest Stop and the Sergeant Floyd River Museum & Welcome Center.
The goal of the project is to create a playground where all children, including ones with special needs can play together. Expansion of the existing space, new surfacing and curbing, and the equipment itself will be selected with this goal in mind. The new equipment will include specialized accessories and structures for children with special needs so that all children, regardless of ability, will be able to enjoy this park together. The current playground area has unattractive, broken and dated equipment and an adjacent drainage area that is a potential safety hazard for young children can be fixed to increase the play space.
