 About Us

Project Overview

The primary goal of St. Stephen*s School and its Parent-Teacher Association is to create a safe playground area that promotes health, fitness, recreation and FUN ! . We feel that our children would greatly benefit from structures that would allow them to climb, slide, and develop upper body strength and strength of imagination while playing in a co-operative manner with their school mates.

Our Plan:

This project is necessary to improve the recreational facilities available to our students. Furthermore, in doing so, this project works towards promoting healthy living and fitness.

The intent of our Parent Teacher Association is to create age appropriate play areas, where children can play in a cooperative and safe manner during their free time at school. We intend to foster a feeling of positive school community, enhance the social education of our children, as well as provide an attractive and welcoming yard area which encourages children to play and be active.

Proposed Site

The schoolyard is currently an unappealing area of patched asphalt with equipment limited to 2 or 3 basketball hoops and games painted on the asphalt. The school grounds are bordered by HRM soccer field, which is not available for development by the school for playground equipment. Our intention is to reduce the parking lot feel of our school yard. We wish to introduce age-appropriate fixed equipment structures to both the lower and upper elementary portions of the *backyard* area. We would like to soften the play area by removing portions of the asphalt where equipment structures will be placed. We also propose that existing garbage and recycling containers be moved to a less obtrusive area of the yard.
