Center for Creative Play® (CFCP) is a national leader in inclusive play and play environments. Founded in 1995 by five parents who envisioned a place for all children to play, Center for Creative Play® is a respected resource on the importance of play and universally designed play environments. CFCP operates a 15,000 sq. ft. indoor playspace in Pittsburgh, PA, where children and families of all abilities play together. Through a national advisory practice, CFCP conducts workshops for early intervention specialists, educators, therapists, and parents, completes universal design assessments for existing children's play environments (i.e. children's museums), and provides training and technical expertise to communities across the country who want to provide accessible indoor play opportunities. CFCP also designs products to promote inclusive play, such as our award-winning Time to Sing musical CD collection.
Center for Creative Play believes in the importance of play for all children of all abilities and backgrounds. Why play? For the sheer joy and delight of it! But play is crucial to the cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development of all children, too. CFCP strives to provide and design environments that foster creative, imaginative, physically active, and inclusive play. A CFCP Environment integrates children of all abilities and encourages and enhances their development.
Center for Creative Play® is not simply an assemblage of electronic game equipment or a set of toys, but rather a carefully planned indoor play environment. Through the principles of universal design, CFCP Environments provide a fully inclusive play opportunity where every child can participate in play alongside their peers—their peers who use wheelchairs, have cognitive delays, or are developing typically. This opportunity is a crucial factor in building inclusive communities and breaking down societal barriers to inclusion. Center for Creative Play® envisions the day when every child and their family will have access to fully inclusive play environments.
