Start a New Topic

There may be times when existing topics in a forum do not meet your needs. Select  the button labeled New Topic, which opens the add/edit box and start a new topic of your own. Type in the text of the message you wish to publish.

Select Preview to see your note before it is published. Edit your post then choose Update and your note will be published.  If you choose Cancel your note will not be published and you will return to the topic to continue reading.

Check Notification to be notified when someone responds to your post.  Check Lock if you do not want anyone to respond to your post.

  1. Why are some Forum folders grayed out while others are blue? Colored folders indicate that new posts have been added since your last visit.
  2. What do the red dots before and after a screenname indicate? When a user name has a red dot before and after, it means that individual is on line.  If they have listed their AIM, MSN or ICQ information in their profile, you may be able to instant message them.

You may rate a topic on a scale from Poor to Excellent by selecting the rating you wish to give in the drop down menu box at the top right corner of the topic.

My Posts & Forum Search

It's easy keep track of the posts you and others publish. To see what you have posted and the replies, just click on the My Posts button at the top of the forum page. A list of your posts, the replies, views and information related to the last message posted will appear.
 
Use Forum Search to find posts by date, author, subject, or keyword. Just click on the Search button at the top of any Forum page an enter the values you wish to search by in the appropriate boxes.

My Settings allows you to control your experience in the Forums. There are four categories of settings.
General
User Profile
User Settings
Tracking/Subscriptions
Move your cursor over the blue ? icon near each option for an explanation of what that option controls.

How to Reply

You can join the conversation or thread by posting message. You may choose Quote or Reply, which you'll find in the top right hand corner of each post. Reply opens the add/edit box without quoting any other message. Type in the text of the message you wish to publish.

Remember, to post your own messages and take advantage of all the features available, you willl need to be a registered user.  Register and then log in with your KaBOOM username.

KaBOOM! Forums are collections of topics (also known as threads or discussions) related to specific subjects.  For instance, in the Importance of Play Forum, on the KaBOOM! site, all the topics relate to news, information, and opinions about play and its role in children's lives.

How to Quote

You can join the conversation or topic by posting message. You may choose Quote or Reply which you'll find in the top right hand corner of each post. If you select Quote, the entire message you are replying to is copied into the add/edit box that appears.  To reply to part of the message, you may edit out any of the text between the two html tags [QUOTE] and [/QUOTE]. Only the text between those two tags will appear in your response.

Join a Topic

It is easy to join a topic (also known as a discussion or thread) to read what others are saying and to add your own thoughts. Click on the title of a forum and you will see a list of topics. Choose a topic by clicking on its title. It will open up to display everyone's posts or messages. Use the scroll bar on the right side of your screen to move up and down within the topic.
